Room #207, Saturday Morning

Apr 07, 2007 13:06

Cassie awoke, still trying to shake that whole 'madly in love with Teddy' thing that had happened to her. It was, well, creepy as all hell. She'd gargled with listerine and brushed her teeth and taken a long long shower.

No way could she face Teddy for awhile. Heck, she wouldn't even be able to look Billy in the eyes, if he was around.

She stumbled out of her bed in her white-with-pink-polka-dot pajamas, and then nearly tripped over the package that wasn't there the night before. Rubbing her eyes, she picked it up, and sat back down on her bed with it. There was no mailing labels, merely her name on the top. She opened up the top, to find inside a battery-powered portable DVD player. It was terribly confusing, but when she opened it up, there was only a one word note, taped over the controls.

'Play'.

This was very weird for first thing in the morning, but Cassie couldn't really think of anything better to do, so she pressed play. It wouldn't take long until she would regret it.

The video started. It was at the Avengers mansion. She could spot... it was her dad. Scott Lang, alive and well. Alarms went off, intruder reports at the gate. The intruder... Jack of Hearts.

Cassie clapped a hand over her mouth. She had already started to cry at the sight of her dad, but now she knew what she was seeing. It was footage of that day.

The day her dad died.

She watched with frozen dread, knowing exactly what was going to happen. Her dad, hopping on a bee to fly down to the gates despite the protests of his teammates. Growing back to full size, asking Jack what was going on.

Jack, his flesh mottled and rotting, only said two words.

'I'm Sorry.'

The flash of the explosion filled the small screen, and when it dissipated, all that could be seen was rubble. Rubble, and the charred bone of a hand. Her father's.

The video stopped, and Cassie couldn't help but continue to cry. Who could have sent her this? Who would send her this? It didn't make any sense.

She clutched her blankets close to her. She should have just stayed in bed.
