What do we do when the tears won't dry?
When we gasp and weep and squint and sigh?
All I can do or think or say
Is burn the tears away.
What can we do when the children fight?
When it seems like the whole world's lost sight?
I get on my hands and knees and pray.
Burn the tears away.
What will we do when the world's upside down?
When devils and demons are running around?
And what will you do on your dying day?
Burn the tears away.
What will I do when you don't love me?
When even you just don't see?
I will beg and beseech you to stay,
and burn the tears away.
When the old flame sizzles and sears,
all anyone remembers is tears.
