Our visit to see my dad went as well as could be expected. He was still lucid enough to enjoy seeing Twopointoh, who used Dad for a chew toy to exercise his two new teeth. Mom is hanging in there with a lot of help from my siblings and visiting hospice nurses. My mind is more at ease having had a chance to see Dad one more time.
I just wish I didn't have to lie to him. I'm not sure why, but Dad doesn't understand that his cancer is terminal. He thinks he picked up a flu bug the last time he went in for chemo and was apologizing the whole time for getting sick just when we visited. He talked quite a bit about coming down to DC again to see the monuments on the Mall when the weather warms up. I grinned and said if he was waiting for spring he'd better hurry, because we get maybe three days of springlike weather between friggin' cold and stupid humid. Then I excused myself to get something out of the car, so I could cry a bit without getting caught.
