Gah. I want to choke and vomit all over the department stores. Since when does a day dedicated to the SOLEMN REMEMBRANCE of those that DIED for our freedom translate into shameless consumerism?
No. I will not be shopping today (unless for food). I REJECT the distortion of this important day of remembrance. I choose, instead, to stay home and enjoy my family and remember those that fell so that I can have one.
I would like to call out particular names of the fallen:
Colonel Foey Shiflet. Bronze Star. Purple Heart. DMOR. World War II veteran and my grandfather.
Lieutenant James Hinkle, my father. He drove tanks during the Korean War (but in Germany, not Korea).
I am a bit sad about my father being passed. I really don't know much about his military career. I wish I did. Today I will remember him, especially, since he is almost "The Unknown Soldier". Almost.
