U.N. Prepares to Debate Whether 'Mother Earth' Deserves Human Rights Status

United Nations diplomats on Wednesday will set aside pressing issues of international peace and security to devote an entire day debating the rights of “Mother Earth.”
A bloc of mostly socialist governments lead by Bolivia have put the issue on the General Assembly agenda to discuss the creation of a U.N. treaty that would grant the same rights found in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights to Mother Nature.
Treaty supporters want the establishment of legal systems to maintain balance between human rights and what they perceive as the inalienable rights of other members of the Earth community -- plants, animals, and terrain. [...]

The UN wants to recognize a ball of mud floating in the void of space as a living being. It is common to refer to this ball of mud as "Mother". Is "she" a parent you want? Let's look at how our mother nurtures us:
Every year 150 people die from snow avalanches.
Over the past 200 years, there have been over 200,000 deaths due to volcanoes.
On December 6, 2004, 225,000 people were killed in a tsunami in Sumatra.
Plagues:
Smallpox killed more than 300 million people before it was eradicated.
The Spanish Influenza killed 50-100 million people from 1918-1919
The Black Death killed 75 million people worldwide.
From 1875 to 2008, 19,191 people were directly killed by tornadoes in the US.
... and the list of death, destruction, and mayhem due to nature goes on and on. Wild animals, droughts, toxic plants... Nature is not a kind and nurturing mother.
If the U.N. gives the Earth the status of a human, then I am suing for emancipation and damages.
