Microsoft Wants Your Health Records
Its new service will store your data in one place-and search ads could make it pay. Will enough people put their trust in HealthVault?

Microsoft, well known for its security vulnerabilities, now wants to host your most personal of personal data: your health records. Will they be private? No. Not at all. They will be indexed and will serve you up targeted advertising. If that does not sound like it is HIPAA compliant, it isn't. Microsoft is not required to follow the regulations (pdf) in their scheme, and that let's them do what they want with YOUR health care data.
I could see something like this working if it worked more like the harddrive backup services from Carbonite or Mozy. Those services store encrypted data that ONLY YOU have the key for.
Me? There is no way in HELL they will ever touch my health care records.
