This reminds me of a joke...
A town was starting to flood and was being evacuated. With the water three inches deep a man refused to leave his home. The police came by and asked the man to leave. "No. No. God will save me." And the police left.
The water was a foot deep and a monster truck drove by and the driver beckoned the man to hop in the back. "No. No. God will save me." And the truck left.
The water rose to the man's roof line and the man was on his roof. A boat came by and beckoned the man to hop in. "No. No. God will save me." And the boat left.
The water rose to the man's chimney and he hung on for dear life. A helicopter came by and they dropped him a rope. He waved them off shouting "No! No! God will save me!". The helicopter flew away.
The water rose and the man drown. Being a faithful man, however foolish, he was allowed into Heaven. The man questioned God, "Why did you let me drown? I waited for you to save me and you didn't come."
God replied, "Foolish one. I sent you police, a monster truck, a boat, and a helicopter! Why did you CHOOSE to drown?"
