The Dream Spills Over

It's a bugger not getting a proper night's sleep. My dreams seem too real and I've slept through most of the day. Today was spent fighting Word and trying to get some tables to line up on the page. Nothing like Align -> Format -> Repeat to keep you awake. Zzzz.

We cycled to Simon's sister's house yesterday and found that it took an easy 25 minutes to get there, although Simon was completely jiggered on the way back. Poor Simon!

He's off out tonight for a meal at the Golden Retriever with some old Library friends. Should be a good night out! I don't know if I have to pick it up, but it might be probably as he hasn't passed his driving test yet.

We had a great weekend though. The barbeque with Chris and Chris was excellent fun, including the novelty of trying asparagus wrapped in bacon and cooked on the barbeque. It was very, very tasty. I can't remember ever eating asparagus before, but it's a winner.

Bad sci-fi was watched - Appleseed Ex Machina (not that bad) and Warrior King (Not sci-fi). The ending of Appleseed Ex Machina lead me to wonder if anyone in Japan has actually been sexually molested by a tentacle. It seems unlikely, but so much of this stuff involves people and machines getting wrapped, ensnared and smothered by tentacles it seems that there's some deep underlying problem with it. I don't understand it.

Warrior King wasn't as good as Ong-Bak. The fighting was good and the budget bigger, but it lost some of the purity and comedy of the earlier film. Plus the main event that kicked off the story was somebody losing an elephant in a crowd of people. "Have you seen her? She's got tusks and a trunk and she's much, much bigger than everyone else."

Also involving tentacles but far funnier was Futurama - The Beast With A Billion Backs. It had a message about infidelity and the freedom to sleep with more than one sexual partner. It had depth and was far weirder than Bender's Big Score, but not nearly as funny. Although all the business with Wernstrum was fabulous.

appleseed, pub, ong-bak, night out, futurama, cycling
