Art Portal

OK I'm probably months behind with this, but Portal seems to be generating a frightening amount of fan art.

As ever, it varies from the cute to the depraved with a few strands inbetween. My personal faves include a nice model someone has made of the Companion Cube and blown up to widescreen wallpaper size; Valve's own efforts at the Portal site (link at the top) and anything that mentions cake.

It's weird that a quirky little game should inspire so much love, but there are a lot of themes that might appeal to fan-artists. There's the mecha-computer with the female voice, the bizzarre orange pyjamas that the player/character wears throughout, the sense of isolation, the geometric backgrounds, the iconic cake and the anthromorphisation of a cube via a few simple catchphrases.

In the real world, I'm editing a story. It's quite tricky. I just need to swallow my pride and concentrate. Grr.
