Doing some writing at the moment. Got to pen an extra scene of The Christmas Gnomes to tack on to the end of Magical History Tour.
I'm also listening to Crowded House's new single.
It didn't take me long to work out why Si is such a big fan of Crowded House after he gave me their greatest hits as a present. They produce wonderfully heartfelt, warm, loving music, if it is sometimes a bit cheesy. Neil Finn really loves his wife! Since then, I've been priviledged to see The Finn Brothers live in concert twice, where they played a number of Crowded House songs, usually including Si's absolute favourite, Distant Sun.
So they turn up with a new single, Don't Stop Now. It's very similar in tone to the Finn Brothers album, which - hey! - I love as well. It's got a fab rhythm part, it really drives the song along. The chorus is epic and passionate and then the pianos kick in for an awesome, stomping bridge.
It reminds me very much of when New Order released Regret. I had only got into them shortly before they released Republic, so I all their stuff that I had heard was 'old'. I was round Phil's house and he played me their new single and I just remember thinking 'woah - they're still fantastic!'
It's quite a good comparison really. Don't Stop Now is not the strongest comeback single ever released, but it's superbly emotive and I've found it easy to connect with. To be honest it was a lot better than I anticipated! In fact, it's a new favourite.
