Should cut the dead heads off those roses. It's getting dark now.
Guy at work did himself no favours today. The document we worked so hard on last year? He referred to it as '£40,000 down the drain. Thpththththt.' Then he said 'I use my copy as a doorstop.' The more I think about this, the more shocking it is. To denigrate the hard work and effort of your colleagues so openly and casually is pretty heavy stuff. Last week I was thinking I'd been a bit too cynical and negative about him. Now I know I wasn't.
I spent some of my hard-earned today (what? more? Is there any left? The answer is yes and the buggers keep paying me). It was a tortuous moment because I was buying some exciting tat - the 11 Doctor Who gift set from Character Options. Eleven nicely sculpted models for £50 is OK really. Forbidden Planet were selling individual Doctors for £25 at one point. If they weren't so damned cool we wouldn't need to buy them. If Toys R Us hadn't had a big clear out we'd have never bought any at all.
Is it justified? Does it matter? We have enough money to buy them. We are the target market. I'll spend the £50, get the cool figures and arrange them into silly poses. It'll be great. People who come to our house will say 'Wow! They're cool.' They'll live their little toy lives and eventually be interred in a shoebox somewhere. That's how the modern society and economy work.
I'm really looking forward to Toy Story 3!
