Ahem, well, as you can see, the new keyboard finally turned up, no thanks to the idiot from UPS who skipped over the "if no answer" part of my note downstairs and went straight to "leave it at Sonny's, who will charge me $2 to retrieve it from them". (Altogether, counting a mishap at the PO this morning, I think I'm out about $20 in shipping overcharges this week, which isn't exactly going to do much for my general mood layered on top of having been without capital letters & angle-brackets for six days.)
So, so far the Tactile Pro is... interesting. For one thing, it's wider than the fruit-era iMac keyboard; the Pile O' Notes & Crap that tends to accumulate to the left of my keyboard shall have to find itself a new place to lurk if I want to keep the same amount of room I'm accustomed to over on the right side for the mouse-run. It's also got full-sized arrow keys between the letters and the number-pad (which is part of the increased width), so it's going to be a while before I stop reaching for them below the right-hand SHIFT key. Responsiveness is nice, though, and the clicky-clicky audible feedback is a nice change from the fruitboard's quiet mushiness.
Oh, and it's also thicker than the old keyboard, which means I'll have to get into the habit of keeping my chair a bit higher than all-the-way-lowered... which may mean working on My Big Fat Sedentary Thighs, got to do some math here. Next time I get up... ;)
(Ahhhh, such a relief not to be clicking on screenbound buttons with the mouse anymore! It's nice to know that one can, in an emergency, have some rudimentary sort of computing existence without a physical keyboard, but Friday was really about the limits of my tolerance for that sort of thing...)
And now my supper is ready, so having satisfied myself that things are back to some semblance of normal around here, I can switch off and stand down from panic-mode for the first time in nearly a week...
