well, I'm boxing up the old room. Which is sortta' sad, since I never really unpacked in the first place. Anyway I took some pictures with my new digicam and hopefully will have them up as soon as I figure out how to do that. If anyone knows how to put up pictures from a digital camera on LJ, please reply with instructions (or contact info (I'll ( Read more... )

In order to put pictures up on LJ, you first have to have some online storage place somewhere. Usually if you have an internet service like Earthlink, AOL, Comcast Digital, so on and so forth, you do have some amount of space provided.

Your next step is to put your pictures in that webspace - generally they have programs built into the service provider that make such things possible. FTP (file transfer protocal) Programs such as Bulletproof FTP are good for this, but it would probably be best to find a shareware program unless you're going to be using it on a regular basis.

Also, some service providers will just have an ftp webaddress. Comcast Digital, for instance...

ftp://upload.comcast.net

Once your pictures are on your webspace, you'll be able to access them via a web address. The domain will be the service provider you're using, while the rest of the address (aka online file path) includes your username...

http://home.comcast.net/~robk98

...just for example. After your username will come the directory you put the image under..

http://home.comcast.net/~robk98/images

..and after that you add the actual file name of the picture you uploaded. Of course I'm sure you know that all internet addresses are case sensitive, so just put all file names in lowercase letters.

http://home.comcast.net/~robk98/images/nameofpicture.jpg

..or whatever image format you used.

Once you have the address, you can do a number of things from there..

Either get onto the www.livejournal.com home page and update your journal using the new rich text format.. which allows you to insert pictures without writing code.

Download one of the LiveJournal clients that will let you throw pictures in under Edit > Make Link/Image.. in which case you only provide the address of where the picture is located.

Or you can just manually write out the code yourself in whatever program you use to update your journal.. ^^;

Here (link) is a good example of the above process. x.x; If you right click on the iamges and select "properties" you can see where the iamge is actually located. ^.~;

Good luck..
