I initially went in to the guy to alleviate my left knee pain (I've had some problems with it over the years, especially after fucking up the ligaments in middle school), but he told me to stand up, looked at how my hips sat as I stood, and told me, "You have scoliosis." I mean, I figured it would develop at sometime, since my mom has it, but it was all official. He said he's treat the knee pain, but the scoliosis was affecting how my femur connected to my knee, continually scraping on ligaments and tendons, giving me lots of pain if I ever ran around a little.
So he started lessening the pain in my knee with the needles, and then after a couple of visits he started cracking my spine into place and then treating the resulting pain from THAT with the needles. And this wasn't "oh, could you pop my spine? Thanks, it's been feeling tight." Oh no. This was a forced shoving of my spinal column into a new and alien position over multiple weeks. Even with the acupuncture after the realignment, on some days I just wanted to crawl over into a corner, lie down flat with a heating pad, and quietly die. But Jeebus, did it help.
