Don't bleed on your friends.
So that is the great piece of advice when dealing with bipolar disorder. Seriously, what are friends for if not to support you when you're going through a rough patch. Am I not allowed to sit down and tell them exactly what need from them? (Like, "don't patronize me," "don't cut me off so much," "don't act so awkward around me when I'm having an episode"...)
Will I really push them away by having an honest conversation with them?
