This morning, I had a Pap Smear and a Mammogram done, which took up most of the morning. I asked Dr. Luteyn about some new moles. She said that one was a cherry hemanginoma, and the other was a mole that looked okay, but I should keep and eye on it. I also asked her about the results of the barium swallow. I was contacted by a Gastroneurologist to set up an appointment in July (hope we have coverage then). Food gets stuck sometimes when I swallow. The problem they noticed is usually connected with acid reflux (no tumors, then). In July, they are going to dilate my esophagus. I'm not clear on why, but Dr. Luteyn says the procedure is "not pleasant".
With preventative maintenance out of the way, I went to the library. I got there at 10:45, but after the library bond failed (I voted for it, thank you), the library had to cut back it's hours, so it wasn't open yet. I dropped my books in the book return, and will pick up my holds later.
At 2:00, Corey and I took Amanda to Pioneer Elementary for her transitional IEP evaluation. Basically, that means that Amanda's preschool teacher, Michele Neeley, talked with the Kindergarten teacher (Nancy Spohn, who was Alexander's Kindergarten teacher--she remembered Amanda as an infant). Also present were two special ed workers (teachers?), one of whom had gone to Madison Elementary to observe Amanda (there's no preschool at Pioneer). Also, the principal, Chris Woods, and the school psychologist, Steve Lawrence. Mr. Lawrence asked how Alex is doing on his ADD meds (we haven't noticed a difference, but maybe his teacher has).
It was agreed that even though Amanda is still fighting potty training, she will go to Kindergarten. In other areas, she is just a little slow, so the staff at Pioneer will have to give her more time to complete tasks. Mr. Lawrence asked if Amanda gets frustrated performing tasks so slowly, but apparently it doesn't bother her one bit. She does get mad if someone tries to push her to make a decision or finish what she is doing. She knows what she wants to do, and wants to do it in her own way and time.
Amanda played quietly with some LEGOs and drew a picture in a notebook I had brought. She seemed happy. She was very excited to go to Alexander's school. She is set up for the morning Kindergarten class, so she and Alex will go on the bus together to go to school, and the bus will bring her back around noon or so.
