It's all Richard Wagner's fault

It’s much later than it should be.  And it’s all Richard Wagner’s fault.  Tonight’s Live from the Met was Tristan and Isolde.  I find Wagner a little trance-inducing:  all those big voices going at one another hammer and tongs.*  And going and going and going, hammering and tonging.  And you know that, of course, what is the single thing everyone ( Read more... )

*****But you’re in this trance, and you think, the opera’s still on, it can’t be that late . . . oh yes it can. Tristan and Isolde lasts over five hours.

Funny, they don't seem that long when you're caught up in them.

******** Well, exactly. That's part of the Dangerous Wagner Trance.

Really. I had no idea that "Tristan" was five hours. Or "Walkure", or the others. Good thing I didn't pick one of those as the one with which to introduce my husband to opera; "Tosca" was much more approachable.

********* Yes. I've never even thought of trying to persuade Peter to come to some Wagner with me. He won't go to Handel operas either.

(*LAUGH!*) again! Ever try pouring gravy on their stuff?

********* Oh, what a good idea. One of my Answers to Life is gravy (along with chocolate and champagne). I'll try it next time. I was just thinking about it tonight when Darkness was making eyes at my dinner of final leftover duck scraps in gravy to disguise the 'final scraps' aspect.

You know Dr Pitcairn recommends feeding nuts to dogs as a good energy source. He says they’re better ground, but he doesn’t say that unground ones go straight through like marbles down a chute.*****

(*LAUGH!!!!*) Just because they're going through physically/mechanically intact doesn't necessarily mean that at least some nutrients aren't being leached out of them. About ten years ago, I had to take a certain medication. It was coming through essentially unchanged, right down to its neon pink color. I asked the pharmacist about it, and he said that it's not uncommon for a pill carcass (yes, that's actually the technical term for it) to pass while the pharmaceutically important ingredients have been absorbed by the body. Maybe something similar is happening with the -- er -- worm eggs. :-)

************* LOL!!!!!!! You tell the best awful stories!!!!
