Operation Mindcrime
Last Thursday, I went up to see Queensrÿche. They performed the entireties of Operation Mindcrime 1 and 2. It was an interesting change from the standard concert. Very dramatic rock opera stuff. Very cool.
Suds and buds
Since I had to stick around for the coffee house, I spent the night at Hades' house and then worked from RPI. Ah, the joys of sitting amongst college students. Of course, it's a very different crowd than the local schools. Anyhow, eventually, I met up with Zeus at his new favorite bar, which also houses his church. Long story. Look
here if you care. Anyhow, we each had a sandwich and a pumpkin ale. He had to run to get to the coffee house to set up for the gig so I went to the next bar on my list. Hades and Ares were there. Eventually. And a couple other people showed up. Then, we heard from yet another guy and went to one more bar to hang out with him for a bit before we went to the coffee house. Sadly, we missed the first set, but Zeus' band really rocks.
Gooooooaaaal!
So, I made my first pilgrimage to Madison Square Garden on Sunday. The Buffalo Sabres had been on quite a hot streak so I figured I might actually see my first win. When I got off the train at Grand Central, they held most of the cars and we were greeted by numerous cops and National Guard personnel. Something happened on the train. When I was changing trains at Time Square, I happened to walk right past my boss. That was a little weird. In any event, whilst the burger I had at the Garden was one of the worst of the past 15 years, the game was pretty good. The Sabres did win. In overtime. And I got to see a fair amount of blood on the ice. That was cool.
Simpsons Treehouse of Horrors
So I watched the latest installment and I found it lacking. The first segment had one big laugh for me. And I always enjoy hobo abuse. But it really wound down for me after that. The last segment was somewhat similar to the usual Simpsons parody. Except it was exactly what the original War of the Worlds. Until the very end. I just didn't think the resolution to that (or the previous segments) was particularly strong.
I know Rory asked about this whilst I was out voting. I had to admit, I'm having trouble talking about it, myself. Not to mention the unusually blatant political commentary at the end, which is not much in line with my own views. But that might be a good thing to talk about if you haven't already.
Simpsons quote of the day: "Hey Bart, if Lisa's better than you at hockey, does that mean you're going to become better than her at school?"
