So, Styx was playing a show just south of Boston on Saturday. There was to be no opener. And it's in the round. The stage actually spins. You get great seats no matter where you sit there. Since it's a bit of a drive, we decided this year we would spend the weekend out there. We being me and Hades. Ares came along for the ride. The vague plan was to camp around Cape Cod. Of course, we did nothing to make that happen. You can't even get a decent camp site here on zero hours notice. Out there... about a year. So yeah, we wasted a few hours trying to find some place. The Greek gods don't have real jobs so they didn't want to spend much. Hades was suggesting we camp in a parking lot or something. Pass. We eventually started heading toward Boston. We stopped every so often, found a phone book looked up some hotels, made some calls. Repeat. We eventually found a rat trap very near the concert location that was cheap enough. It was also very near an excellent little bar. Good beer. The bartender was from near Syracuse. Very helpful.
Hades and I went to the show pretty early (crazy, I know) and discovered there was an opener. A comedian. So we had 1.5 hours to kill. We drove back to get Ares, then roamed to find a bar with the Miami Dolphins game. We found a bar that should have had it but didn't. We stayed 15 minutes, then went back to the show. Which turned out to be in progress when we got back. I am told we missed only one song. The show was good and the set was even changed slightly from the last five times. After the show, we played a few three player Bang! games, which is my new game obsession.
On Saturday, we played some more Bang! then went out to a nearby beach. We didn't really "go to the beach." We just wandered around a strip of beach. Went to an arcade. Ate lunch. Had ice cream. We went along the beach for a bit. Played some mini golf. Then we started heading home, hit one more bar, and eventually I dropped off the boys.
On my way home, I got within two miles of my exit when traffic ground to a halt. My 90 minute trip took an extra 40 minutes to get through those last two miles.
Simpsons quote for this entry: Conversation between Bart and Homer after being seated at a table shaped like Massachusetts in Americatown, a USA theme restaurant in Japan:Homer: I can't believe they stuck us at Taxachusetts! Hey, you know, I once knew a man from Nantucket.
Bart: And?
Homer: Let's just say the stories about him are greatly exaggerated.
