Came home early from Selena's dinner party because I just didn't feel very sociable after a while. I think the trip is still too recent for me to derive any pleasure from looking at pictures of Boracay. So I spent some time watching a wonderful DVD of Ella Fitzgerald in live performance from 1957 and 1963. That led me to look her up in Wikipedia where I found the above quote. It also led me to an entry on Lena Horne, on whom I then did a search on Youtube, and found her in terrific form with a song called "You Better Love Me". Those teeth! Those eyes! Those cheekbones! Really, Halle Berry has nothing on her as a black beauty. And she really is a great singer, and her sense of projection of a song is well-nigh unrivalled. I really should expose myself more often to such singers because they inspire me to sing. The next opportunity comes on Saturday night, when I find myself once again on Orchard Road at the Paragon. It's the same old gig, probably the same old songs, but if I play it right, it never is the same old, same old. "The only thing better than singing..."
