Deadline to Repeal

Oct 10, 2007 23:15

I've been scrolling through the names on the open letter to the PM on the Repeal 377a website, just to double check that I've added my name to the list. I think it's there, only the first name is missing for some reason although I filled up everything on the form. But #405 says "Goh (actor) - West Coast GRC", so I think that's me. Part of me is vain and wants to sign it again so that my first name shows, but I don't want to compromise the letter by signing it twice. I think some of the other signatories ended having their names there twice or more, maybe because of the way the website works.
Looking at all the names of all the people who have signed the open letter, I wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry. I want to laugh for joy because of all the support garnered (2880 signatures the last I checked). People from ALL walks of life, of all ages, all wanting this ridiculous law to be repealed. I want to cry because we have to do this to try to get the government to see some sense, this same government who never had any qualms making decisions for the rest of the nation, this government who is hiding behind some imaginary conservative majority so that they don't have to deal with the Christian or religious minority, many from within their own ranks. The cowardice is really risible and despicable. Still, as one of my gay friends have said, there is still hope if enough Singaporeans, gay and straight, add their voices to the multitude of voices who are now crying out to be heard, and for justice to be done. If nothing else, we can show them that we're here and we're queer( or queer-friendly!). So I appeal to you, if you have not done it, please go to http://www.repeal377a.com/ and add your name to the list. The deadline for the Parliamentary Petition to be submitted is Oct 14 and the deadline for the Open Letter To The PM is Oct 19. DO SOMETHING!

P.S. I've had to sign the letter again despite my earlier reservations. Please note that you should put in your FULL NAME twice in the the form. Only those signatures with full names will go into the official letter to the PM. Otherwise you will only appear in the online version.
