Just finished reading, all at one sitting, "Why We Love Dogs, Eat Pigs, and Wear Cows: An Introduction to Carnism". Fair warning, the video at the author's website is somewhat graphic, and the book is moreso. I still think it is worth reading, though.

A few of you reading this have made comments to me at one time or another that basically boiled down to: "I would be vegetarian if there were vegetarian "meats" that were comparable to ...well, dead animals."

I recently acquired some Workbasket magazines (ok, pamphlets, really) from the '50s. My Mom got them for me at a flea market because they have several knitting, crochet, and tatting patterns in them. The ads are hard to believe, though. I'm not going to scan them because the text pretty much speaks for itself.

The recipe for the best chocolate cookies in the world is at Post Punk Kitchen. The cookies are very similar to a recipe from Martha Stewart for Black Forest Cookies, if you add the cherries.
