You know, I'm actually unsure what punctuation to use in the subject line. I wanted to use a question mark, except that was way too Canadian, and then I wanted to use an exclamation mark but that seemed too enthusiastic (heaven forbid I would be enthusiastic about...my own writing). And then there was the period, but that seemed... ( Read more... )

Punctuation. Either seems fine to me, though I'd avoid trying both and going for an interrobang.

Author headshot. Writer replica? Scribe sketch? Dramatist depiction? (I don't know why I'm stuck on alliteration there.)

Bwahahahaha. Alliteration is good, don't you know. I have one Spooky Scribe and one Monochromatic Melodramatist and one Speculated Spokesperson. And one Hungover Hack. Perhaps we'll leave that last one, hmmm?

Depends, which do you think would speak most to your target readership? If you're after the 3AM boozers, maybe the last one's the one to go with.

Are bookshops open at 3am?

I think a local coffee/bookstore was for a short while, but it closed down. They don't have to be buying the books at 3AM, they have to be reading the books after 3AM, drunk.

That sounds like my kind of bookshop. I suppose that someone could ORDER a book at 3 am.

So I take it, that's one vote for Hungover Hack?

I withhold judgement until I see the photos (I apologize if they went up for voting and I missed them). Based on the titles and the book summary, Spooky Scribe might suit better.

Incidentally, most public library systems have a 'recommend/request a book for the collection' function on their websites, I'd advise you to encourage anyone with a library card go fill in your book info at their local system's site (maybe a bit closer to your release date though).

I had also heard at one point in the 90's that there is a system in place with Canadian public libraries that Canadian authors get a miniscule royalty every time their book is taken out of a Canadian library, but that may have been a rumour and really, you'd probably know more about that than I would.

Awesome ideas. For my kids books (that I illustrate) which are in the library system, I've never seen a red cent, but who knows?

I'll post photos as they're ready. I personally like the Spooky Scribe one, but that's the one that makes me look like I have no chin, so a little photoshopping is in order (I'm so vain that way, wanting a chin).

Could have been a thing in the 90's only, or could have been a rumour, but it was an author at a con that mentioned it. Something through the Canada Arts Council? My googling is failing me. :-/

Chins, pft. Highly over-rated. I'm sure the bottom of your face is lovely with or without one. :-)
