Fanwork and Rating Policy

Oct 14, 2010 15:40

Hello!  As fans, it's to be expected that fanworks (be they art, songs, fiction, or crafts) will pop up and robin_fans  is more than happy to have you post them.  Since I would like the comm to be reasonably friendly and open to anyone, but at the same time appropriate, I ask that you put anything with a rating that may be considered "Teen" or higher under a lj-cut, if you're posting directly to the comm, or with a link to your journal and have the post mention it in some way.

I also ask that you tag the subject of fanworks in some way.  ([fic], [art], [icons], etc)

For any other tags, don't hesitate to ask for one.  I'll be happy to get one added for you!  If I'm being particularly slow (sometimes school makes my really busy) drop me a line either in the Suggestions Box or a message to harechan to remind me.

For most fanworks, a nice labeling guideline is as follows:

Title:  The title of your fanwork (if it has one)
Rating: What you would rate your fanwork at (you must have something here)
Summary: A short blurb about your fanwork.
Warnings: These are important if spoilers are present. Also anything of a "mature" nature should be mentioned here.
Disclaimer: Please include a short one.
If you have anything more specific to add (archive permission, crossover information, word count, etc) feel free to include it.  If you don't need all of the information listed, you don't have to include it.  Granted this is just a guideline and you don't have to use it if you don't want to.  If you choose not to include any info, I'll make a sad face, but it's not like anything will happen to you.

For the purposes of this community (and for those unfamiliar with the FictionRatings.com rating system), here is how ratings will break down:

K:  Intended for general audience 5 years and older. Content should be free of any coarse language, violence, and adult themes.
K+: Suitable for more mature children, 9 years and older, with minor action violence without serious injury. May contain mild coarse language. Should not contain any adult themes.
T:  Suitable for teens, 13 years and older, with some violence, minor coarse language, and minor suggestive adult themes.
M:  Not suitable for children or teens below the age of 16 with possible strong but non-explicit adult themes, references to violence, and strong coarse language.
MA: Content is only suitable for mature adults. May contain explicit language and adult themes.
Why don't you use the MPAA rating system?  Because believe or not, the MPAA states that they hold copyright over their system.  So as not to step on their toes (not that they would notice...) we use this one.  It's why FF.net and videogames use different rating systems, too.  But it's really easy.  K is G, K+ is PG, and etc with MA as NC-17.

However, any fanwork posted to the comm must mention the rating and any warnings for content (when applicable) in it.

Thank you!
