the only reason for our continued anonymity (other than our desire for impartiality of results) was fear of what can happen when you give out your information on the Internet.

Actually, not everyone has to go through IRB reviews. Not everyone is US-American, the internet is actually used by other continents as well. European universities completely lack the whole IRB procedure, for example.

That is true; in which case, IF the group was from a European university, that should have been noted.

Do European universities allow such anonymous research by students, staff, or faculty?
