In Which Woman Learns of the Emotional and Physical Flaw of Her Design

So, a friend of mine allowed me to collaborate on a science fiction story with her! She's a brilliant writer/author (like if Stephen King were and 18 year old girl! :D) So, naturally, I was pumped.
This means that I got the chance to a)flex my original writing muscles, and b)do character studies/ come up with more characters!   We're outlining it in RP for, and every now and again one of us -admittedly, usually she- will write a real piece...or part of a piece.

Anyway, this is about a character named Major Marissa Everet and how she ended up being a robotic bitch. It's just a little concept piece. Enjoy anyway?

THESE CHARACTERS ARE OUR BABIES! D: Please PLEASE do not steal them!

In Which Woman Learns of the Emotional and Physical Flaw of Her Design

“There’s still 5 men in there, Sir!” the woman shouted, running for the building.

“Major! Do NOT go in there! That is an order! Do you hear me!” General Walsh roared.

No, she didn’t hear him. But even if she had, she would have disobeyed. Tautly muscled legs encased in digital BDUs carried Everet closer to the building, every second counting for those inside. She’d lost count of the bomb’s timer when she’d had to call back to the General and didn’t have any idea how much was left to get the other UP officers out.

When Marissa threw open the door, that time seemed to stop before everything continued, all at once as if it was making up for the seconds lost when she’d dared cross into that war zone where only time was allowed.
Heat hotter than any oven rushed over her followed by dead silence. A sound like thunder cut through that stillness at the same time she felt something like every muscle in her body was being pulled apart or cramping together. Someone was screaming- oh it was she….
Unable to see in front of her, Marissa attempted to get up -though hadn’t realized she’d fallen. To no avail, she couldn’t feel her arms, her legs, nothing…Just a burning, throbbing pain like nothing the Major had ever felt before in her life… “Get up” she said to herself, though the only sound she managed was a choked gurgle and she felt and tasted the blood dribbling from lips that felt as though they’d been peeled away. Her eyes burned, but she opened them anyway thinking to herself , “get your bearings”. But, more pained and more exhausted as these new seconds ticked away, mental computation and even breathing became more difficult, leaving her almost pleasently distant from the war around her. It was in these new seconds, the ones that counted the last dazed moments of her life, that Marissa  discovered  why it was that she couldn’t feel the rest of her body.
But soon, green eyes stared blankly into the heavens as what was left of the woman's mangled body convulsed -or tried to- and it no longer mattered what she could or couldn't feel of her body.
After all, she no longer needed it....
