In August and Everything After, I'm after everything

I was reminded by a colleague earlier tonight that I haven't posted anything in a long time. My reasons were valid but its also inconsiderate to keep people I don't see very often out of the loop. I may someday go back over the past 6 months, but for now it would be best to focus on more recent events.
August 4th is normally reserved as Amy's Birthday, an event unto itself, but this year on that date one of my best friends got married to his love of 4 years, and I had the honor of being the best man. In the weeks leading up to the wedding we got to talk and spend a lot of time together, including his bachelor party weekend in Chicago. The 7 Original Group members were there, which was fitting and I'm glad it worked out that way. In between the bachelor party and Adam's wedding another one of my best friends, Niki, was married as well to her longtime love Brad. She looked beautiful and it was a wonderful ceremony.
(Unrelated to any of the wedding theme Ashley and I saw Counting Crows in Dayton during this period...great show. )
And finally the time arrived and Adam and Julia came together in a union I think we would all be envious of, and rightfully so. They share as much in common as any two people I've ever met, and the differences will be like little pieces of gravel in a freshly paved road. The sacrament and the institution of marriage is made for couples like them, who will strive to make each other's lives better, happier, and fuller, living to serve one another and loving each other more with every passing day.
(I couldn't resist plagiarizing myself for those of you who attending the wedding.)
Following the wedding I spent an incredible vacation week with Ashley. We went to St. Louis and saw a baseball game, the zoo, the Arch, and most importantly the Anheuser Busch Brewery. We also learned a lot about each other and how we will do with extended time together. I love her very much and look for things between us to continue to go well.
In other news from the past few months, which was widely discussed but never blogged about, I bought my Grandmother's house in May. Unfortunately I have yet to move in or begin working on it since she is still in the process of moving to her new house next door to my aunt. Therefore, I am officially a homeowner but will continue to be mooching off my dad for another month or two at least.
I also became eligible to work off-duty for the police department, and I must say that has changed my life a great deal. For a time I worked 60 or 70 hours a week several weeks in a row. I made a good amount of cash, but I also learned that I value my spare time and freedom to do what I want much more than money above what I could really use. So now I work an average of 8-12 extra hours a week and it is much more managable.
I learned a lot about myself in my time away from posting. Some of it could be useful to others but a majority is only relevant to my situation. I find a lot of things I used to find immediate and important to be relatively low on my totem pole lately. I suppose I am still in that agonizing process called growing up, even if my career and life trajectory suggest I should have been there some time ago. I've also learned to give myself a break every once in a while for a foul up and learn to look at the big picture more. I look forward to advancing in my personal life and relationship as well as my job, and I will try my best to maintain a record of it. Thanks for your patience, RS
