My Fey Team D&D campaign has been going well. I'm going to indulge myself with a full write-up or two sometime in the near future--Let Me Tell You About Our Characters. Very cool! You know, I saw Wheaton's tweet awhile back about playing on the Fey Team, which seemed like a pretty big coincidence.... now I know :-). Sounds like a great session too!

Why? Because you let the players decide the course of action. You didn't have a script, or a plan, or a "way things will be" in mind. You had your own notes and some facts about the current state of the in-game world and you let them ride out to see what happened when the players (and their dice luck) got involved. The cardinal sin of a DM is to script shit out, and from your comments here you made it clear that you had a setup for the sandbox but that you AND your players got to play in that sandbox together.

Honestly, when my campaigns go badly it's *also* because I didn't have a plan.

But as you say, I'm taking the time with this campaign to have a sense of how big and strange the sandbox might be.
