A very quiet weekend, as rehearsal was cancelled. So I spent my time watching odds and ends on DVD, including season four Buffy and season one Angel, which I’m attempting to get through simultaneously, as they were originally screened. (And in order to get the “whole” story.) Stand out episode so far: “Room W A Vu” - a brilliant showcase for Cordelia Chase!
Gradually getting there on the play front. A few people still struggling with lines, and last Monday’s rehearsal was a mess, with too many people messing about. Wednesday’s run through though went well, and restored my faith in the production.
There’s a moment in the play when I’m on deck, and Amanda’s character, the “well endowed” Mercy, sitting on the recliner to sunbathe, removes her bikini top and leaves me transfixed. We were wondering how we would get around this with the notoriously prudish Penarth audience, but Amanda’s decided she’s going to do the topless bit, facing me but with her back to the audience. I told Amanda that, sorry, I’m going to have to stare at her breasts and act shocked. Amanda advised me that I won’t need to do much acting. It’s going to be hard to keep a straight, shocked expression in this bit though, as the audience is likely to be in uproar.
A rare find on UK Nova - the first episode of a sitcom I’ve been wanting to see for years - Casanova 73, with Leslie Phillips as a philandering husband landing himself in farcical situations each week. When the seven episodes were first shown on the BBC back in 1973, they were considered so shocking and risqué that the show was buried in the schedules and quickly cancelled. Questions were even asked about it in parliament!!! It all seems very tame now, but very funny, and I’ve always enjoyed anything with Leslie Phillips in (indeed, it’s thanks to an account his autobiography that we’re doing “Sextet”). I’m now waiting in anticipation for the other six episodes.
