Update!

The first proper update in a while, as it’s been a fairly hectic week. I did a fair amount of travelling, making my way around the other side of the channel to Clevedon and Weston-Super-Mare on Thursday, and then, on the Friday, making the boat trip to Flat Holm. Very interesting trip, though I did get rather sunburned as the island was quite exposed, with not much in the way of shelter. Surprising how much activity there’s been on this tiny 500 metres diameter island right in the middle of the Bristol Channel - abandoned and converted farm buildings, nineteenth century and Second World War gun placements, ammunition tunnels, abandoned gun barrels, a derelict isolation hospital, a working lighthouse, and lots and lots of rabbits. Spectacular views in all directions, both the English and welsh coasts, and I could even make out, very small in the distance, my apartment block, as well as the roof of the Milennium Centre.

Many birthday celebrations on the Saturday, and many thanks for the birthday wishes! I spent the whole afternoon and evening in a bar in Cardiff Bay, where various work colleagues, members of the theatre group, school and other friends came to visit, coming and going in shifts! The lovely Amanda invited me out clubbing with her in Cardiff afterwards, though when I got back to my apartment at about 10:30 pm, I fell asleep and didn’t venture out again to join her and her friends.

Unfortunately, that night I also removed the jam wedging my bedroom door open, subsequently forgot I’d done so, and walked slap bang into it in the dark, almost knocking myself out and bringing up nasty bruises on my forehead and nose.

Anyway, back at work now, and looking forward to another evening rehearsal. Then, tomorrow night, it’s the first reading for a November production of “Much Ado About Nothing”, which I have also been asked to take part in, and which means I’m going to be joggling two plays for a while once again - though obviously “Sextet” is my big priority!
