The value of the word amazing has been eclipsed by the frequency of its use, and quite honestly, it's annoying. When used so commonly, its meaning becomes debased; its impact would be greater were it used only for occasions of an appropriate connotation. Rather than describing any extra-ordinary event as amazing, one would do better to use an alternate word, both bettering ones vocabulary and the accuracy of his language. Using a more varied array of language makes the word amazing more powerful when used. Though the ending of americas top model may have been “AMAZING”, was it as “AMAZING” as that dave mathews band concert? One would think that the experience of seeing a musical performance (of a band so lionized) would be considerably superior to watching television, as such the ending of the show might better be described as excellent or super (were it truly so). Those too are superfluous adjectives, but it is less their meaning and more their frequency of use that makes the difference. In a sea of amazing's, fantastic will make a bigger splash in casual conversation. Do everyone a favor: the next time you're about to drop “amazing” into a conversation, don't.
