There, got that sorted out with what else I'm doing before Nanowrimo... I think I want to make it a big focus during artsomofo -- if you follow that group you'll see daily art through October.

I've decided that I'm going to do one last butterfly for you too while I'm finishing up C/W -- I have this lovely piece of homemade Colourfix with gold watercolor under it and washed over it and then thought, this would be grand to do something really colourful on. It won't be realism but I think you might like it. Pastels or oil pastels, will decide at the time.

But that one will be very loose and large, a one-day project rather than the intensity I need to finish Cat & Wombat.

I know it will take at least a week and several more stages to get it right, but all I need to do is rearrange my stuff so the three-drawer box is where my watercolor brush washer is and move the pencil sharpener. This will make pastels Very Easy and watercoloring a little more difficult.

I'll probably just use the drawing board in my lap instead of the big easel because there isn't really room to set up the big easel in here. There's nothing more visual to show, but several problems I've had are now worked out, especially fixing the royal blue background and texturing it.

I have also been working out what to do with the tulips on it. Oddly enough the animals are the easiest part! I've done animals in pastels almost as often as portraits, they come easy and are natural and grand. They need detailing and that's about it.

So there is an actual progress update. I realized I have done a great deal of mental work during the "block" as I sorted out the things that need to be done next -- but haven't had the physical setup worked out right. Tonight, thanks to your reminder, I worked out the best way to put it in reach.

From there, October is my self-set deadline. I could freeze again mid-stream if it starts getting ugly but unless something awful like that happens, I will be drawing every day during October so that's the best time to finish -- I'm getting excited about it again. I usually do when I think about working on it.

I just need to make sure that it is the easiest project and the easiest medium in reach on October 1st -- that gives me two weeks of trial and error physical logistics. And two weeks to finish up Vaumuru which I should be synopsizing and writing the last chapters on.
