2008 ACEO ~ Art Cards, Editions and Originals Playing Card Deck

What is an ACEO ~ Art Cards, Editions and Originals Playing Card Deck?
The ACEO ~ Art Cards, Editions and Originals Playing Card Deck is a collaboration of 54 international ACEO artists who will have their artwork appearing on a fully functional deck of playing cards. Each artist has been assigned a specific Number card, Face card, Ace or Joker where their artwork will appear along side their ebay username.

Where are the artists from and how did they meet?
Artists whose work will be appearing on the 2008 ACEO Art Cards, Editions and Originals Playing Card Deck represent many countries in the world including the United States of America, Canada, Italy, and England. All artists featured are members of the ACEO ~ Art Cards, Editions and Originals group on ebay.com.

What is an ACEO?
The acronym ACEO stands for Art Cards Editions and Originals. An ACEO is a 2.5" x 3.5" work of art (an original or a print edition). It is always this size, no exceptions. These highly collectible cards are as varied in theme, composition and materials as are larger works of art. Historically, Artist Trading Cards (ATC's) were 2.5" x 3.5" original works of art traded only amongst artists. An ACEO is exactly the same thing, but is intended for sale rather than trade. This acronym was created to respect those artists who are passionate about ATC's being trade only works of art. ACEOs provide a venue for artists to sell their miniature work and for the public at large (including non-artists) to collect these wee masterpieces.

What is the difference between an ATC and an ACEO?
ATCs are traded. ACEOs are sold. That is the only difference. Both are highly collectible art cards.

Who started the ACEO Movement? How did it happen?
In October 2004, artist Lisa Luree, (bone*diva on ebay) in response to her awareness of an unserved market, created a group (ACEO ~ Art Card Editions and Originals) on eBay to promote the creation and sale of art cards. Lisa was recognized by ebay in 2006 as the founder of the ACEO movement. ACEOs made it possible for anyone to collect original art or print editions at reasonable prices. It also opened an entirely new venue for art sales to starving artists (and those who aren't starving!).

Now there are over 4,500 members in the original ACEO group on eBay, but ACEOs have spread beyond the confines of eBay to include other sales venues including artists' personal websites, Etsy.com, artandcraftauctions.com. Artists and ACEOs can also be found on many other venues including MySpace, YouTube and Facebook!

Are the playing card decks available for purchase?
The 2008 ACEO ~ Art Cards, Editions and Originals Playing Card Decks are presently available for pre-purchase by members of the ACEO ~ Art Cards, Editions and Originals Group on ebay.com until June 16th, 2008.

Limited edition Artist Autographed sets will be auctioned on ebay.com as early as late summer.

And if you're wondering what my card will look like... you get a slightly reduced print of this on the Seven of Clubs!

Full on colored pencil painting, with the layering and the burnishing and the marbles that look like they're going to roll off the paper. I'm retaining the original till the decks are available and may put a deck in with it when I auction it. Or just sell prints and not auction the original, it's awful cool stuck to my easel in a top loader with a bit of blue tack!

As a set of prints, this deck is an incredible bargain. If you like collector cards, trading cards or ACEOs, definitely order one or two of these. I'm picking up a few extras for resale or gifts. If there are enough preorders, the price per deck will go down again too! It's had one price drop already since I put in my preorder to Rick. He has done a super job of organizing the project, and I've seen some wonderful art on the Spoiler thread. Not all the artists are displaying their card art before it's in print, but enough of them have that I know I'll treasure this -- and may need to get an extra album to handle it!

Today I'm working on another still life -- and another project.

My horror novel ground to a screeching halt like all my previous horror novel starts. I'm not sure why it's so hard to get into that head, but maybe I should count my blessings and move on to writing merrier things. What emerged in its stead is something I've been mulling over for years and years. Three Dead Punks and a Telepath. It occurred to me that I could do both versions simultaneously -- or do the novel version faster, then use it to guide the storyline on the graphic novel/webcomic version.

Then post the webcomic on my new site next month, once I have the story at least penciled and ready to go, post a page a week till it's complete. Offer a print version in print on demand, but make it available as a serial on my site. Arkratirma and others have been drooling after this project for ages -- and after doing Vampire Princess Dana, I think I can do the manga style well enough to accomplish it. With plenty of penciling of course. I jotted a note to myself in my Canson Universal Recycled sketchbook to keep all the Dead Punx sketches in one sketchbook there -- but I also put a pack of Bee Manga Paper into my next Blick order for August. I think that by August I should have enough done that I can start doing final versions, just use my lightbox to transfer them to the good manga paper and ink and color there. I actually have all the tools I need for it, with the possible exception of some skin tone colors in Prismacolor Markers.

I might even make that Vampire Princess part of the character roster, there should be other vampires and creatures of the night abounding in such a super-universe. I'll have to see how that goes. I like my scruffy punk heroes and heroine a lot, and will be writing today at my usual mad insane pace to get their story started.
