The good news is that two out of three of my Blick packages arrived today. One was three pounds and one was four pounds. Yay! These two smaller packages turned out to be my Alvin "Heritage" field easel (with half a pound of packaging!) and my Blick Artists easel umbrella complete with ground stake and clamp, each in a snazzy little black carrybag with a shoulder strap. I can lift both of them with my weak arm, just sling them over my shoulder and go up the back steps into the yard.
The bad news is that it's overcast and raining intermittently today, there is no way I want to try doing plein air painting when I'm walking through squishy mud barefoot with water mixing with the oils! Er, not going to work. I'm going to have to wait for an actual sunny day to use these new toys.
Tomorrow the large 9lb package is coming. That's the one that has all the new paint, which I could have used indoors today. I'm still all excited anticipating it though. For one thing, I miss using Pelikan Opaque watercolors and have some new ideas for things like "Fiery Sun," bright, bold, shaded opaque watercolor ACEOs. For another, I will have an extraordinary big palette in Winsor & Newton Griffin Alkyds with all the colors I wanted, all the colors I wanted but sorta put off till later, all the colors I really know how to use well, some extras I never tried but wanted to try, and a very short wish list of expensive colors I put off till a random much later. Probably tucked in around other orders to get just under a shipping limit or take advantage of a coupon.
I actually have those colors, but will be upgrading to original pigments rather than hues or approximations and find out how those behave. They aren't that pricy either really, it's just that I had other colors I liked more to get first. From there it goes to "someday it'd be fun to try every color of Alkyd Oils that Winsor & Newton makes."
So I am sitting indoors with the lights on because it's too dark to read or draw without the lights on given my poor eyes, mildly annoyed at the weather. It has done one thing though, relieved the pain a bit. If it was sunny and I felt this good I'd have grabbed the acrylics tub or the Alkyd colors I already have and gone outside to paint. But it's not. Maybe it will be in a day or two or by the weekend, that would be cool.
Tomorrow Lisa is coming over for our Thursday Night Art Jam and I might finish some of the alkyd paintings I have in progress with the new colors!
But right now I'm tempted to just throw open the Prismacolors case and work on my marbles, see if I can finish that big colored pencils extravaganza.
