All the matzah at whole foods was on sale....except the kosher for passover ones. amused. I mean, not that i care, since i'm not keeping kosher. My whole house is so damn chometz that some crackers that didn't pass some ridiculous standards aren't gonna matter ( Read more... )

I read the wikipedia entry on chometz, and I'd be surprised if you had understood it. It had a bit of hint towards how I'm using the word,but not so much.
As ya discovered, leavened bread is verboten on passover. Not just eating it, but to even have it in your house. And not just bread - you're not supposed to have even the smallest crumb left behind (well, to the best of your knowledge.) Any leavened bread in the house makes the passover chometz - that is to say, fucked up, invalid.
To say that a specific place or item is chometz is to say that is has not been cleaned sufficiently, that it has leavened bread in or on it.
Everyone who lives here is a slob. And the primary food for all of us is bread or bagels. It would take me days to clean this place to a level where it would be acceptable for passover.

The wikipedia article on the haggadah implies that it's, like, some canonized text. It's not. There's a gajillion different versions of it. I meant to write my own, but didn't get around to it. All it is is a prayer book/script for the ritual.
