I'm all in favor of increasing diversity on TV. I mean, heaven forbid, TV shows reflect reality somewhat. While things have gotten better (e.g. Heroes and Lost), writers (usually white men) fall back onto stereotypes to depict minority characters. So things are getting better, but there's still a lot of work to do.

I don't really like the whole "every main cast member must have a romantic pairing" rule of TV, though. I mean, can't people exist and have meaningful lives without being in a relationship (with the ultimate goal being marriage, of course). I say this as someone deeply in favor of relationships, but can we let people know that it's okay to be single, too? And can we also promote the idea that the goal of a relationship is not to have kids? It's annoying, and it further alienates couples who don't want or can't have kids (I'm thinking specifically of gay/lesbian couples who need to jump through hoops to get children into their lives and then have all the horrid abuse heaped on them for daring to raise a child outside a nuclear setting).
