Danny's best friends (we don't count) are the animals. I had some concerns about how well they would get along. Would the animals be jealous of Danny? Would Danny be too afraid of the animals? Would Phoebe ever come out of hiding?

Little did I know that the problem would be that they're TOO good of friends. Danny and Pecola are the same height (when D's sitting), they have similar interests (things that are soft, things that squeek, things that roll) and similar habits (crawling, laying around, putting things in their mouths). Often, they get confused as to which toys belong to which species. Pecola often thinks it's okay to grab the toy D's playing with. She's adopted one of his rubber duckies as her own. Likewise, Danny thinks that 'Cola's squeeky toys are just amazing and he also wants to chase them and grab them and put them in his mouth. The other day, a dog toy rolled underneath a narrow cabinet. Pecola was on the left side with her nose and paws scraping to reach the toy, while Danny was on the right side, belly on the floor, reaching and scraping to get the toy. Oh my.

If sharing toys wasn't bad enough, we've recently had some new developments. Danny's favorite activity is crawling (one might call it a mad dash) into the kitchen and tipping over the dog/cat's water/food dishes. Yesterday, after dumping over the dog food, Danny ate some. Just picked it up off the floor and put it in his mouth like it was a cheerio. Afterwards, my baby had dog breath. Ick.

We've also noticed that Danny has learned to carry his toys with him when he travels from one room to another. How great! One might think, until they realize that he's carrying around his toy in his mouth. Just . . . like. . .the . . .dog.

I'm sure it's a phase he'll grow out of, but for now -- Adventures with Danny are giving us paws.
