Third week into the summer session, and the inevitable issue of attendance has reared its less than attractive head. Several of us here in the WC double as instructors, and we have been swapping stories already of the apparent lack of concern on the part of some of our students as to the value of actually attending a class for which they have registered.
I, myself, had exactly two students (as some of you know) in my morning class yesterday. Now, this is why this phenomenon is even more detrimental to the absent students' success than normal. A summer session crams an entire fifteen week course into eight. In order to accomplish course objectives under such circumstances, the class actually meets three times a week for three hours at a time. Hence: in one day we can cover approximately a week's worth of instruction.
So, let's see, those that miss multiple days of the class are in a multi-week deficit. This is, to say the very least, difficult to overcome.
(huge sigh)
In other news: I have much to accomplish today. I need to get started.
Agendas are fun. They are easy to create and nearly impossible to complete.
why so serious?
