Generation Chasm

Mar 13, 2011 22:26

Phil and I introduced some 20-somethings to John Waters movies this weekend. We started with Pecker, then showed them Pink Flamingos. They could handle Pecker just fine. (Let's face it, ever since John went "mainstream" with Hairspray, he lost his edge.) But they just couldn't handle Pink Flamingos.

One said, "This is worse than Human Centipede!"

What? Really?

There seems to be a generational difference in the kind of gross-out that is acceptable.

Waters' light-hearted humor vs horror?

I'll take the humor, thanks.
