We haven't been watching much over the past month or so because of other things going on. Mostly, we've been watching Dragonball Z.
Sherlock Holmes (2009) - I couldn't watch this under its own merits since I am currently reading through the Holmes canon. It wasn't bad, but the world really doesn't need a "reboot" of these late Victorian classics.
Sherlock Holmes: The Hound of the Baskervilles (1988) - The Granada Television productions of the 80s and 90s starring Jeremy Brett are fantastic! Brett, to me, is THE definitive Sherlock Holmes. Most of the episodes are fairly true to the original stories. I was somewhat disappointed with the adaptation of this story, however. It seemed that a few important plot points were glossed over.
In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale - Jason Statham in a quasi-Arthurian epic bomb. Lots of eye candy in this one, but the plot is VERY derivative.
Oklahoma! (1999) - Hugh Jackman stars as Curly in this British production. It is an OK version of the musical, but not great. Josefina Gabrielle may be a good singer/dancer, but she STUNK as Laurey. They obviously cast her because she could dance; this made for a modified Dream Ballet sequence with Jackman and Gabrielle dancing the ballet instead of dancing doubles. I say modified, because Jackman's role was not very balletic. Also, Gabrielle's singing voice is too operatic for musical theatre. It just didn't blend with the rest of the cast. For me, the star of this production was Maureen Lipman as Aunt Eller. Vicki Simon's portrayal of Ado Annie was also top notch.
The Mrs Bradley Mysteries: Speedy Death - I adore Dame Diana Rigg. I adore early 20-century Britain period dramas and mysteries. Two great tastes that go great together. The writing is witty, the acting is superb. I wish they had done more than five installments of The Mrs. Bradley Mysteries.
Daria: The complete series (disc 1) - I love Daria. Her cynicism and dry, sardonic wit make me wish I had been that cool in high school.
