Is nostalgia really a good idea to put something on one's Netflix queue? No, not really. I finally moved the first disc of
New Zoo Revue to the top of my queue and received it today. Five minutes into the episode, I was ready to send the disc back.
This show was like a combination of Mr. Rogers and the Krofft shows (Pufnstuff, Lidsville, etc). Giant anthropomorphic animals: Charley the Owl (a know-it-all curmudgeon), Henrietta Hippo (a Southern Belle right off the Plantation), and young Freddie Frog. And then the humans: nerdy Doug and saucy sexpot Emmy Jo. I thought it might be fun to revisit these childhood memories. I'm not sure why. I didn't really like the show during its first run in the 70s, why should I like it now? Off-key singing, shrill character voices.
My brain hurts.
