Scheherezade

I just finished watching Arabian Nights, the TV miniseries from 2000. I gave this a pass when it aired, because they were promoting it as a vehicle for John Leguizamo, and I just didn't want to see the "Little Latin Boy in Drag" ruin a classic. As it turns out, he has a relatively small part, and does it rather well, even if it is a bit derivative of Robin Williams (he plays Aladdin's genie).

I loved this movie. Lush scenery and costumes, a great retelling of 5 of the 1001 nights, and modifications to the frame story that fit in seamlessly with the stories chosen. The special effects aided the story, rather than pushing it along.

This is a keeper, and one I'll rewatch several times.
