Smytty traded I cannot believe my eyes. Anybody want to buy a Sky cable box cheap? I won't be needing it for NASN anymore.
For those of you who are English, my team, the Edmonton Oilers just traded away their franchise player (and in my opinion greatest Oiler ever) away to the New York Islanders.
"Greatest Oiler Ever" is a grand title considering Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, Paul Coffey and Bill Guerin used to play for them but I think it is right. Sure, there have been other more skilled Oilers in the past, but none of them have half the heart, grit or courage that Smytty has. In last year's playoffs, Smytty took a puck in the mouth that knocked out four teeth. He bent over, picked them up off the ice, skated to the dressing room where he has his bleeding gums stitched up and came back out to score the game winning goal in DOUBLE OVERTIME. If Gretzky accidently cut his pinky toe while filing his toenails, he would've been out for months while plastic surgeons were flown in from around the world to make sure the band aid was applied properly.
Smytty has also never been surrounded by greatness like Gretzky or Messier, the '88 Oilers are arguably the greatest team to ever put on skates. He has literally been a giant among mice on the recent Oilers. There isn't another player on the team right now that holds a candle to him. It would be like trading Henry away from Arsenal.
This sucks.
