I have been in a funk lately but it doesn't mean every thing is doom and gloom. What give me hope for the future is one particular episode of Party | Party on Bravo TV.
And hope's name is Brandon.
For those not in the know (or care) of this show, let me tell you that I had no intentions of watching this. At first glance, I thought it was crass and vulgar.
The basic premise is that Bravo films two parties and cuts back and forth between the two parties. The party that caught my eye was the Casabonne family graduation party for the bratty 17 year old Justine. Now its not the temper tantrums about the party, or who's coming or the planing.
Its the little brother to the graduating Justine, Brandon.
Brandon likes to cook.
Brandon likes to scrapbook.
Brandon likes to make his own perfumed skin care products.
Brandon is 11 years old.
Brandon is a friend of Dorothy. He has to be.
Now before I get jumped on for recommending the little guy as the new sixth member of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, take a look at it yourself.
During one of the more tender and sane moments, Justine and Brandon both go into the bathroom so they can figure out which hairstyle will work best for her party. She admits that while he's a gross little brother, he knows what looks good on others, its just his talent. Also, While he seems to be the most sane and together of the family, he is just as much of a diva as the mother and daughter. (Seriously, watch out when he gets older!)
His one dirty secret? He likes hanging out in his underwear all day long. And I know quite a few Marys that take life just as leisurely as this young lad. Now I hear some of you, these things don't make a guy gay. And I'm all for letting kids develop into who ever they are and need to be. After watching this show, I just feel that this guy plays for my team.
So what if Brandon seems to be well on his way to earning a scholarship to the University of Dorothy. Personally, I already think he should be an associate professor. He's probably well on his way to figuring out who he is well before the family will.
