midvacation post

I've been out of the state for the past week, spending a little time with my mom's siblings and their spouses, since it's been something like 15 years since I last saw them. We all rented a house in Montana that was allegedly near Glacier National Park... only it turned out it was more like an hour-plus drive away. My body also decided shortly before vacation it was time for the yearly breakdown by plant sex, so I wound up the first three days in this gorgeous house, waterfront on Flathead lake with beautiful blue skies every day, sneezing my fool head off and praying for death. Okay, exaggeration on the latter part. Nonetheless, it was nice seeing the relatives, though I played a bit of a recluse during my time there, and wound up dodging all the nature hikes because I figured I really might be praying for death if I went along on one of those.

During my time there, I:
  • saw three bears, a big horn sheep up pretty darned close, and a half dozen mountain goats including two kids. I will have pictures.
  • went into a Wal-Mart for the first time.
  • drove myself mad trying to get my laptop to work right.
  • read Wicked, which I decided was pretty good.
  • learned to live with high pitched bird-like noises at all hours of the day.

Now I am in Leavenworth, here for the big Fourth of July event with pretty much everyone on my dad's side of the family. It's a yearly event for way too long (over 100 years I think), but it should be nice and sunny, and my allergies have decided I suffered enough apparently and have subsided to almost nothing. Wednesday, I will be home, and I think I will be grateful for that. Then a short two-day workweek. Then the next weekend, which I am actually looking forward to far more than Tuesday.
