So it all started out on Wednesday the 13th of August. Went to work for a bit more than half a day then ran home to finish getting my stuff around. Worked on Ashley's computer a bit, trying to get the thing to work properly. I think there may be something wrong with the dvd/cd drive. Hopefully the new one I bought will be just peachy. So while messing with that I finished packing and got stuff to go, and headed to Mason to pick up my good friend James. We ended up leaving around 5ish in the evening, our destination Indianapolis.
The drive down wasn't too bad actually, it seemed to go fast enough. Made one stop to get some Taco bell and use the restroom and all that jazz. Got to the Day's Inn around 10. Now, the place we picked out was rather cheap, and all the hotels that were close to the convention center had sold out some time ago. But I hadn't really expected it to be as ghetto as it was. Some of the lights didn't quite work right, and it just was rather shabby. At least it didn't have bugs or any horrid smells, and for the most part worked fine.
Anyway, went to bed fairly early so we could get up at 6 am or so and head to the convention, grab our passes and get to our first events. There was plenty to do and to see there, lots of cool costume and sexy people, fun games and art, etc etc. I was happy to win my first Magic booster draft, in a block that I didn't even know much about (Shadowmoor for those in the know). After some magic, I mostly played Blackmoor (a d&d campaign setting). I enjoy my rogue/sorcerer and all his exploits!
I had a chance to try out the new Hunter game as well. I must say that while the new White Wolf system is somewhat nice and a bit easier... I don't really like the feel of it as much as the old edition. The hunters are a bit more human, have less edges and abilities that made em so cool. Oh well. I dont mind sticking to the older stuff.
Other than that, much of GenCon went the same. Lots of D&D, some browsing through the vendor booths. Saw some cool stuff, hot people, was able to see Chewbacca in the flesh. Woah dang is he a tall man! I wish I would have known R.A. Salvatore was there. I would have taken a book or two for him to sign. Ah well, another year perhaps.
Then on Sunday, the drive home. Always seems to take forever coming home. I was rather tired, and had to do all the driving thanks to my manual transmission. Ah well, I like my stick shift! But the several days of little sleep finally was wearing on me. Despite being tired, I get the two of us home fine and made it back to my apartment. My two cats were happy to see me, and wanted to get into all the new stuff I brought home. Little buggers, but cute as hell. And while I originally wanted to just crash when I got home, that didn't happen. Nope, Ashley wanted to hang out and party some and well, I didn't have to go to work the next day. So the booze was broken out, the monster was consumed to help keep us awake, and much gaming and anime watching occured. Fun stuff that kept us up till 4 am. Needless to say I slept a lot monday heh.
Well it is a week later. I am back doing that fulltime work stuff. I wish I didn't have to leave and could just play games and have a good time like that much more often. Ah well, the joys of debt and having to work. I hope that I can get together with Jimma and crew more often to play various games. That would be nice.
Anyway, that was my trip. Way fun, and I hope to do it more in the future. I think I'll try to get into a couple more larps though, its always fun to dress up and all that. But for now, I shall get back to work. Or at least pretending to work.
