Here's a rare self-expository LJ post.
I, Rob DenBleyker, do not like phones. I have trouble understanding people on them. I have trouble talking to them. I see them as inanimate objects. I have trouble carrying on lengthy conversations with inanimate objects.
It's all psychological, but the point is I have realized more and more lately that I never call anyone unless there's something going on, I'm coordinating something, or I've created or witnessed some brilliant idea, film, funny story, etc that I have to share immediately. The only time I ever really call anyone to casually talk is if I'm extremely bored or stuck somewhere alone with nothing to do or read.
I usually only do casual "What's up?" conversations in person or on AIM, two mediums which lend themselves to idle chit-chat and freedom of both hands without annoying disconnects, static, or hard-to-hear multisyllabic words.
Maybe it's just a gender thing, but I can't help but analyze it a bit. What's your opinion on these newfangled telephones and their impact on your communication etiquette?
