I Had A Heart, Had It Well-Hidden.
So I don't know how I convinced charliehey to post her mermaid AU publicly, but I imagine it involved a lot of enthusiasm on my part and drunken relief that I loved the story on hers. Nonetheless, she has posted it for everyone to read, so in return, I'm going to post the fanmix I made for it.
The story is a mix of mythologies from various places, one of them being Pirates of the Caribbean and go figure that, but she blends it altogether so seamlessly and the story is just fantastic, like so:
His ship was no new beauty, but it was sturdy, and loyal, and could take a good, solid beating. It'd hosted fights, storms, and celebrations.
Idris was particularly fond of the figurehead: a mermaid with sun bleached skin, verdigris hair, and a sublime grin.
A lovingly crafted bosom, as well.
He didn't believe in mermaids, he didn't care what the stories said, but if they did exist, he liked to believe that they were like the Oshosi's mermaid guide: beautiful and mysterious, a real sight to see.
Just before she pulled you to your gruesome death, of course.
