I promised charliehey that I would upload all the amazing girl pop/rock music that's been making me happy in my pants lately, so here's most of it. I'll upload Jean Grae stuff later when I'm not still groggy from my afternoon nap.
First up is Priscilla Ahn who makes gorgeous, delicate pop music that makes you think of rainy afternoons where you sit with a cup of tea and watch the raindrops make patterns on your window. My brother discovered her and made me listen to her, and I adore him for it.

I don't even know where I found this song, but it's the most amazing cover of a Rihanna song I've ever heard, all piano and delicate vocals and layered harmonies.

I am ashamed to say it, but I haven't listened to enough Yeah Yeah Yeahs, despite being in love with Karen O's voice. I obviously need to change that.

Okay, I'm pretty sure that Jen is the one that sent this song to me, but I'm putting it up here anyway because it is one of my favorite songs so far. And for some reason, every time I hear it, I think of Simon Pegg. I have no idea either.

So my brother, who is responsible for shoving me into new music, despite my protests, found this wonderful Welsh singer named Jem. For those who are curious, her back-up band is NOT called the Holograms. She writes moody, dreamy pop music and has a throaty, gorgeous voice, and I am currently obsessed with her stuff.

And this is just random music that I love, some of it purely instrumental, some of it hip-hop, some of it electronica, and at least one song from this cute little Canadian vaguely hippie band whose lead singer reminded me of my brother.
Henry Manx - Talkin' Turban and San Diego - Tijuana
Boards of Canada - Farewell Fire, '84 Pontiac Dream, and Sherbert Head (dreamy, oddball instrumental music that makes your life seem like a constant acid trip. I love it.)
Justice - D.A.N.C.E., Valentine, and Tthhee Ppaaarrttyy (I normally hate electronica and dance music, but this sounds like it came from '80s cartoons, and it's so much fun that I can't resist.)
Heartless Bastards - All This Time
Gill Scott-Heron - The Revolution Will Not Be Televised (my brother sent me this. It is angry and political and fierce and a warning, and I cannot stop listening to it.)
Spek - I'm A Hippie (omg Spek! I adored this band in the '90s, and the lead singer reminded me of my brother, only with an Afro, and they made cute, fun music. I miss them.)
Danzig - Thirteen (as I told Sheila, I want to write really epic angels versus demons original fic to this song. If I didn't think it would literally drive me around the bend, I'd start writing it.)
And of course, the obligatory Mos Def and K'Naan songs because omfg I love them so much!
