They're replacing the tiles in our building's foyer. It took over a week to drill out the old tiles and we then had a fortnight of nothing happening, while we walked over the concrete and spread the dust.
On Monday, a notice went up informing us that the foyer would be closed between 9:30 and 16:30 on Tuesday, so that the new tiles could be laid and have time to set. Oh good: we can cope with one day of using the emergency staircase, especially as work should be finished by the time I get home.
Wrong.
At 17:30 (I was home early yesterday), the doors were still locked, and I saw that the notice had been ammended to say "5th June - 6th June". Hmm. Pity I didn't bother to note down the entry code to the emergency staricase: didn't think I'd be needing it.
Being of an enquiring nature, I decided to have a peek at the work. 22 tiles and tile sections. Count 'em: 22. At this rate, we might be able to get back into the foyer by Friday.
ETA: The job's been completed, but looks a little jagged edge'd. It also looks very strange, where the old edge tiles meet the new middle tiles...
